Pig wrestlin' on MLK day

17th January 2006

Senator Hillary Clinton (D. NY) said, at a Baptist church on MLK day that:

«"when you look at the way the House of Representatives has been run, it has been run like a plantation - and you know what I am talking about."»

While I share her frustration with the Republican controlled House, I'm disappointed she chose to invoke this painful ghost of U.S. slavery in a misguided analogy of current politics. On plantations, slaves were subjected to subhuman cruelty and degradation. To suggest that the Republicans are treating the Dems even remotely like this is insulting, inaccurate and distastful. Does pandering get lower this this?

The Democrats seem to continually pick minority positions on important issues and grandstand on stupid things (the bruhaha over GTA is a good example of this). American Democracy favors the majority party. The Dems need to get in the damn race and stop blaming the Republicans for understanding civics.

Say, isn't Karl Rove looking for some new friends now?
