- By 1949, Project Sign's reputation was tarnished by leaks to the press; Sign was disbanded
- Project Grudge was a lower priority, smaller investigation into UFO reports; still was a secret project
- Lasted 6 months
- Final report of 244 UFO cases given natural explainations to all but 56; these last reports questioned the witness's reliability
- Due to the 1952 UFO flap, the remenents of Grudge would be resurrected into Project Blue Book
- In 1953, Cold War attitudes caused Blue Book to become more secretive; leaks became punishable by $10,000 fines and ten years in prison
- The Robertson Panel suggested Blue Book try to "deflate" the UFO problem
