Rich Site Summary files are small XML files that allow web sites to exchange what's new on their page. Normally, these files are processed by a content management system which then typically displays the links found in those RSS files. But this seems so twentieth century.

Using Perl's Image::Magick, LWP and XML::RSS, I've created a program to extract images from the URLs listed in the RSS files. I then produce a collage which is an image map back to the articles from which these pictures were collected. This is my homage to Jamie Zawinski's Web Collage.

Here is a stand alone Perl script which will create an index.html file and gif, given the URL to an RSS file. Enjoy.
